Langitude Quintet is vocalist Reija Lang’s newest line-up, in which she collaborates with creative and renowned jazz musicians from Åland Islands for the first time. Langitude Quintet believes in the appeal of the groovy 50s jazz phenomenon, hardbop, and for the first time pays homage to the self-proclaimed master of the genre, composer and pianist Horace Silver.
Langitude Quintet also highlights Silver’s work as a lyricist. His music is extremely rarely heard as vocal jazz – even though the composer himself originally wrote the lyrics to many of his original compositions. Langitude’s instrumentation: vocals-trumpet-guitar-double bass-drums brings new nuances to Silver’s music. A rare treat for fans of both strong groove and vocal jazz.
Reija Lang is known as an expressive and bold jazz singer and jazz lyricist, whose beautiful alto voice and improvisational skills impress the listener with their intensity. Lang has released 7 albums and has collaborated with many renowned jazz composers and written lyrics to e.g. Wayne Shorter, Eric Dolphy and Mal Waldron compositions. Lang won the Finnish “Lady Summertime” jazz song contest in 2002.
Reija Lang – vocals
Fredrik Erlandsson – trumpet (+piano)
Richard Palmer – guitar
Kjell Dahl – double bassTomas Tornefjell – drums
