Åland Sea Jazz 2026 – program announced

At the end of August, jazz will once again fill Mariehamn as Åland Sea Jazz brings together top Nordic musicians and the late-summer atmosphere of the archipelago. The festival takes place on 20–23 August and offers four days celebrating the many shades of jazz – from intimate encounters to swinging evening concerts and energetic jam sessions.

Åland Sea Jazz is a festival where music and the sea go hand in hand. Concerts will take place in the heart of Mariehamn, including JazzTelegrafen, the Alandica foyer, the Maritime Chapel, Hotel Arkipelag and S:t Göran’s Church – each venue adding its own special atmosphere to the programme.

Åland Sea Jazz Festival opens on Thursday evening with internationally acclaimed piano master Vladimir ”Vova” Shafranov and his finely tuned trio. The opening concert takes place at JazzTelegrafen jazz club.

On Friday, the festival continues in the foyer of Alandica Concert Hall. The evening begins with one of Finland’s most respected jazz guitarists, Teemu Viinikainen, and his new trio. Friday night culminates with the expressive Sara Aldén, who won a Swedish Grammy in 2025 for Jazz Album of the Year. The evening continues at Hotel Arkipelag, where the musicians return to the stage after the concerts for a late-night jam.

On Saturday, the festival day begins by the sea at the Maritime Chapel, where Anna Rydén and Richard Palmer perform jazz and jazz-inspired songs in Swedish. In the evening at Alandica, Swedish pianist Simon Berggren takes the stage with his nuanced ECM-inspired trio, followed by Finnish band PEELA, whose music brings together jazz, funk, rock and neo soul in a colourful and energetic way. Saturday night comes to an unforgettable close as the jam session takes over Hotel Arkipelag.

On Sunday, the festival concludes with a jazz service in the beautiful S:t Göran’s Church in central Mariehamn. Music will be performed by singer Maria Stenberg-Haug and trumpeter-pianist Fredrik Erlandsson.
