Åland Sea Jazz grooves in August!
Organized now for the second time, Åland Sea Jazz brings friends of jazz to Mariehamn in August. The event culminates the Archipelago Sea Jazz festival series.
On 6th of August the evening will be spent with style at cultural center Alandica. The swinging evening of two concerts is opened by master pianist Vladimir “Vova” Shafranov with jazz professor Jukkis Uotila and Swedish bass player Hans Backenroth. The second artist is one of Finland’s top singers, scat specialist Aili Ikonen whose ensemble honors jazz history’s biggest star, Ella Fitzgerald.
Friday’s concerts are held in the lovely Bio Savoy. The artists will be published later during Spring. There will also be jam sessions that offer local musicians a chance to improvise with the festival artists. The jam sessions are free of charge.
