Whatclub is a renowned ensemble from Åland, which was nominated for the Nordic Council Music Prize in 2023. The band draws inspiration from the genre created by Django Reinhardt in Paris between the world wars, known as “gypsy swing” or “jazz manouche.” Whatclub was founded back in 2006 and has released four albums.

In the concert, Whatclub’s guitarists Richard Palmer and Jochum Juslin, along with double bassist Kjell Dahl, will perform. In addition, two guest soloists will take the stage: Finnish clarinet master Antti Sarpila and rising Swedish star, trombonist Hampus Adami.

Antti Sarpila is an award-winning and internationally renowned jazz musician who is a sought-after soloist in jazz circles around the world. He has performed with Bob Wilber at Carnegie Hall in New York, among others, and his skills have been recorded on around one hundred different albums. Sarpila is inspired by a deep respect for jazz traditions, and his goal is to combine early jazz styles in his own personal way.

Hampus Adami plays both the trombone and valve trombone, and despite his young age, has already established himself on the Swedish jazz scene. He regularly performs with groups, such as Klas Lindquist Nonet, Stockholm Hot 7, Jon Henriksson Sextet, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra Scandinavia. This year, he received the JazzBrazz scholarship for his great musical talent and high instrumental proficiency.
